Welcome

The Haverhill Shotokan Karate-Do Club is affiliated with our Chief Instructor, Kazumi Tabata, founder of the North American Karate-Do Federation (NAKF) and the New England Collegiate Karate Conference (NECKC). Master Tabata has been teaching Shotokan karate in North America since 1968. We practice a traditional form of karate that was first introduced to Japan in 1922, by Gichin Funakoshi, considered the "father of modern day        karate."

The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants. - Gichin Funakoshi

The essential principles of karate.
Excerpt from Karate-Do Kyohan,
by Master Funakoshi.
